Homework Reminder

Please remember when you are setting up your equation that it is comparing the same thing--scoops of flour to scoops of flour.

For example:

books/months=books/months

Define proportion!!

Please define these two terms (Ratio and Proportion) in your own words and provide two examples for each.

&

1) Annie Cannon spends 18 hours in a 2 week period practicing her star classification skills. How many hours does she practice in 5 weeks?

2) In the astronomy world, classifying 20 stars per minute is considered acceptable. How many stars per 30 minutes is this?

3) Of the 400 stars Annie Jump Cannon classified, 14 were categorized incorrectly. How many incorrectly categorized stars should be expected from1000 stars?

Discussing Math

During this semester, I would like us to start talking and providing evidence for the results we get. Just as we did in ADL, I always asked you to provide evidence in proof of your answers. I want each and everyone of you to have a deeper understanding of Math. I don't want you to simply memorize the formulas and/or methods used to solve mathematical problems.

The chart paper above is displayed in my new room, 403, I would like us to get in the habit of using these sentence starters to express your knowledge and operations used in Math.

Math isn't just about numbers!

Community & Parent Engagement

Good Afternoon Parents,
Please careful read the above passage from 751M's parent coordinator. If you are in need of assistance please contact Caroline Velasquez directly at 212. 477.2090 ext. 2103.

Proportions

As I reflect back on today's class on solving word problems relating to proportions (thank you Mr. Dinmahamad for assisting me with the math curriculum), I realized there is still some confusion on two very important steps in this month's aim:

1)What is a proportion?

2) How do you set up an equation based on the word problem given?

Homework: Be prepared to discuss the video and how it applies to the mathematical word problems below:

2) In the astronomy world, classifying 20 stars per minute is considered acceptable. How many stars per 30 minutes is this?
